We are seeking a skilled and dependable Landscaping & Concrete Equipment Operator to join our team. This role is responsible for operating heavy equipment to support residential and commercial landscaping, hardscape, and concrete projects. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with excavation, grading, site preparation, and material handling while maintaining a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and quality craftsmanship.
Responsibilities
The Landscaping & Concrete Equipment Operator will safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, and front-end loaders. Daily tasks include site preparation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and loading or moving materials such as soil, gravel, and concrete. The operator will work closely with crew leaders and laborers to ensure projects are completed according to specifications and timelines. Responsibilities also include performing routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and keeping job sites clean and organized. Adherence to safety standards, company procedures, and job site regulations is required at all times.
Qualifications
Candidates should have proven experience operating excavators, skid steers, and front-end loaders in landscaping, concrete, or construction environments. A strong understanding of grading, excavation techniques, and job site safety is essential. The ability to read site plans, follow instructions, and work efficiently as part of a team is required. A valid driver’s license is necessary, and a CDL is a plus. Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform labor-related tasks is required.
Preferred Skills
Experience in concrete preparation, forming, or pouring is preferred. Knowledge of underground utilities, drainage systems, and hardscape installation is a plus. Candidates with strong attention to detail, reliability, and a positive work ethic will thrive in this role.
Concrete Specialist
- Site Preparation: Clear, level sites; assemble and align forms/molds; install rebar or mesh reinforcement.
- Concrete Mixing & Placement: Calculate mix components; mix concrete; pour into forms, ensuring even distribution and avoiding air pockets.
- Finishing: Smooth, level, and texture surfaces (troweling, edging, stamping) using hand and power tools.
- Curing: Apply curing compounds or techniques to ensure proper setting and prevent cracking.
- Quality Control: Test concrete samples; inspect work for consistency, adherence to plans, and compliance with building codes.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow safety protocols (PPE); maintain a safe worksite; adhere to regulations.
- Project Support: Read blueprints; troubleshoot issues; collaborate with team members.
- Experience: Hands-on experience in concrete work (forms, pouring, finishing).
- Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints, operate tools (trowels, vibrators), measure accurately.
- Physical: Stamina for bending, kneeling, lifting in various weather conditions.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, communication, teamwork.
- Fast-paced, strenuous construction sites (indoors/outdoors, dusty/muddy conditions).
Landscape Crew Member
- Lawn Care: Mow, edge, trim, water, fertilize, and aerate lawns.
- Plant Care: Plant flowers, trees, shrubs; weed, mulch, prune, and trim hedges.
- Site Maintenance: Rake leaves, remove debris, clean up trash, and maintain hardscapes.
- Installation: Assist with sod laying, irrigation, outdoor lighting, and basic hardscaping (patios, walls).
- Equipment Operation: Safely use hand and power tools (mowers, trimmers, blowers) and potentially drive work vehicles.
- Teamwork & Safety: Load/unload equipment, act as a spotter, maintain a clean work area, and follow all safety protocols.
- Seasonal Tasks: Perform duties like snow removal during off-peak seasons.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform tasks for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow instructions.
- Knowledge of plants and gardening products a plus.
- Valid driver’s license often required.
