There is no single drainage system that works for every yard. The right solution depends on where the water comes from, how much is moving through the property and where it can safely go.

Poor drainage does more than leave wet grass behind. Runoff can wash mulch out of beds, expose plant roots and create channels in the lawn. Water collecting along a patio or walkway can also soften the ground beneath it and contribute to movement over time.

Drainage should also be considered when installing concrete, retaining walls or new landscaping. These projects change the shape and surface of a yard, which can change where rainwater goes.
